exposure 2010 submission deadline – March 26, 5pm

The National Art Honor Society Chapter at The Art Institute of Mill Street Loft announces that March 26, 5pm is the submission deadline for their annual juried “exposure” photography exhibition April 17- May 7 at Mill Street Loft’s Gallery 45, 45 Pershing Avenue in Poughkeepsie. The competition/exhibition is open to all high school students in grades 9-12. A $15 entry fee includes up to 3 entries. Two additional entries will be accepted for $3 each. Artists may submit up to five photographs. Cash awards and other prizes will be given at the opening artists’ reception for demonstration of exceptional ability, originality, mastery of the medium, and/or creativity as determined by the judges. The distinguished panel of judges for 2010 includes professional photographers John Fasulo, Michele Muir, Al Nowak and Robert Rodriguez Jr (see bios below). The opening reception on Saturday, April 17, 5:30 is free and open to the public and will feature an awards ceremony and refreshments. Visitors are encouraged also to visit the PHOTOWORKS Exhibit at the Barrett Art Center which also opens on April 17, 4-6pm at 55 Noxon Street, Poughkeepsie. The Art Institute of Mill Street Loft is a pre-college portfolio development program for motivated high school students interested in careers in the visual arts. The Institute hosts the only mid-Hudson Valley chapter of the National Art Honor Society and is accepting registrations for its Summer Art Intensive at Marist College (June 28-August 6) and its international art study trip in Mexico in mid-August. Mill Street Loft also hosts the Dutchess Arts Camps for ages 4 to 14 in Poughkeepsie, Millbrook and Red Hook and offers a wide range of art classes and workshops for all ages and abilities. John Fasulo is a retired network television cameraman having worked in the industry for 23 years. He is a photographer with images in the permanent collection of the Mercantile Library of the University of Missouri; the German Railroad Museum in Nuremburg, Germany, the Center for Railroad Photography and Art’s on line encyclopedia, Railroad heritage. His work has appeared in Trains Magazine, Railroad Illustrated, Modell Eisenbahn Magazine; The Cerise Press and locally in Chronogram and Hudson Valley Magazine.
Michele Muir, a photographer and artist, Michele Muir documents the life-changing visual journey and voice of persons with Alzheimer’s disease. Her recent work, Every 71 Seconds – Memories of Alzheimer’s – was exhibited at Mill Street Loft during the summer of 2009.
Al Nowak started photographing friends while racing BMX and realized that for him, photography was more important then racing bikes. He started working as an assistant at On Location Studios and studied commercial photography at DCC, followed by Rochester Institute of Technology, then returned to Poughkeepsie to manage the studio at On Location, which he currently co-owns.
Robert Rodriguez Jr. is an award winning professional landscape photographer specializing in landscapes of the Hudson Valley. His images have appeared in numerous publications including the New York Times, and his work has been used by many non-profit organizations including the Mohonk Preserve, Audubon Society and Scenic Hudson. He is a respected educator and speaker.
