Award winning Hyde Park resident Tarryl Gabel is the featured artist in a solo exhibit at Mill Street Loft’s Gallery 45 from March 20 through April 10. The show will include works inspired by and depicting the Hudson Valley, still life paintings, western landscapes, and recently created seascapes. The opening reception on March 20 from 5:30-7:30pm is free and open to the public. Mill Street Loft’s Gallery 45 is located at 45 Pershing Avenue in Poughkeepsie, NY. Viewing hours are Mondays-Fridays 10:00am-5:00pm and by appointment on weekends.
Tarryl Gabel was born and raised on a cattle ranch on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation in North Dakota. She began painting at an early age and has been greatly influenced by her grandfather, a self-taught western artist, and by her native culture. Living in the Hudson Valley now for twenty-two years, her influence has shifted towards the style of the Hudson River School of Painters where she takes inspiration from the landmarks and beautiful landscapes of the region. Tarryl studied plein-aire painting and still-life painting with Keith Gunderson. Tarryl’s work is displayed in private collections and corporate settings throughout the country and abroad. She had the honor of being selected to paint a Christmas ornament, specially designed for the White House Tree, in Washington, DC, representing President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Hyde Park home. More recently Tarryl has been commissioned by Vassar College for an ongoing project to paint the unique architecture of many of the campus buildings for their permanent collection.
