MISSION
Mill Street Loft is a not-for-profit, Multi-Arts Educational Center based in the the City of Poughkeepsie, New York. Since 1981, the organization has been dedicated to bringing a wide range of creative, educational and culturally enriching programs to diverse audiences throughout the Hudson Valley. Mill Street Loft is committed to enhancing human services through the Arts, in order to bring people together and ‘make a difference’ in the life of its multicultural community.
As a multi-arts center, the organization is committed to fulfilling community needs through the visual arts, sculpture, design arts, music, drama, dance, poetry, storytelling, arts and technology, photography, public art, and folk arts, such as its award winning Dutchess Arts Camp and its year-round art classes.
Mill Street Loft participates in the economic revitalization of the community through its innovative entrepreneurial programs, such as Project ABLE. Economic development is human development, social development, and community development. Mill Street Loft is, therefore, committed to fostering the vital linkages between Arts and Business.
Working with gender specific issues, the PASWORD Program is for young girls between the ages of 11-15 who are socially and economically disadvantaged. The girls work with artists through mentoring, arts and creativity, and life skills training.
Research now substantiates that “the Arts are critical to education and learning”. Mill Street Loft continues to be a leader in the field of Arts Education, developing quality partnerships with professional teaching artists and schools throughout the Hudson Valley, such as ARTSTEACH. Mill Street Loft is also committed to developing its School-To-Work partnerships and arts education programs that support Goals 2000 and the New York State Learning Standards.
