We are seeking a Director of Development to work closely with Executive Director, senior staff and Board of Directors in meeting annual fundraising goals, and to represent organization in advancing these goals in the community and with funders.

This is a full-time position offering medical and dental benefits, and others.

Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors, Executive Director, Fund Development Committee and senior staff to create a fund development plan
  • Develop and manage timelines and activities related to fundraising events and donor campaigns
  • Have a strong commitment to identifying and developing new corporate, community and individual prospects for the organization’s fundraising priorities
  • Build upon relationships with community stakeholders to advance the mission and fundraising goals of the organization
  • Develop grant proposals to solicit private, corporate and government funding sources
  • Work with senior staff on budgeting as necessary for applying for and implementing grant-funded programs
  • Provide timely reporting and ensure compliance as required by grant award documentation
  • Work with senior staff to ensure development and use of program evaluation tools as a basis for grant reporting
  • Manage annual membership program
  • Develop and implement all aspects of direct donor mailings, appeal letters, and other donor mailings as needed
  • Ensure that the donor database information is current and accurate
  • Acknowledge all gifts and donations
  • Ensure that sponsors and funders are promoted in organizational literature and social media applications as agreed
  • Plan, execute and track sponsorship campaigns targeting area businesses
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements for Position

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in development, grant writing and event planning
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Donor Perfect a plus
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills

Mill Street Loft + Spark Media Project

Position and Responsibilities
Organization is seeking a comptroller to work closely with the Executive Director, Development Director and Director of Operations. Reporting to the ED, and working directly with several key Board committees including Finance and Audit, the comptroller will plan, direct, and carry out the day-to-day financial operations of the combined organization and oversee limited HR duties:

Financial Operations

  • Coordinate and conduct bookkeeping and billing processes;
  • Build a new Chart of Accounts;
  • Prepare and present financial reports;
  • Working with external auditor, coordinate the annual audit process;
  • Working with ED, prepare and monitor annual budget, financial plans and reports;
  • Working with ED and Director of Development, prepare budgets and reports for institutional proposals, grants and awards;
  • Analyze programmatic budgets to measure sustainability over time;
  • Keep senior leadership team apprised of organization’s financial status;
  • Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting;
  • Schedule and prepare materials for full Board and Finance Committee meetings;
  • Oversee financial/accounting policies and practices, including internal controls and bank reconciliations;
  • Communicate and present critical financial matters to ED and Board of Directors;
  • Ensure compliance with all state and federally mandated reports and requirements.

Employee Benefits and Personnel Responsibilities

  • Advance Mill Street Loft + Spark Media Project’s human resources with administration of policies and practices for compensation and benefits;
  • Manage, prepare and submit payroll, payroll reporting, and tax forms;
  • Update and manage a training program to inform and support employees regarding policies, procedures, and practices;
  • Ensure compliance with all state- and federally-mandated programs and requirements.


  • The successful candidate will be a proactive team player who is able to direct and drive Mill Street Loft + Spark Media
  • Project financial functions while working collaboratively with the organization’s senior staff and key committee chairpersons to maintain a culture of financial accountability and transparency. Candidate must have:
  • CPA and/or equivalent experience with a non-profit organization of comparable scope and scale;
  • Solid knowledge of and experience in not-for-profit financial policy, management, and practice;
  • At least 5 years of professional experience overall in the not-for-profit sector; experience in the arts and/or education is a plus;
  • Ability to communicate financial concepts to – and effectively collaborate with – programmatic and fundraising colleagues who do not necessarily have finance backgrounds;
  • Proficiency in accounting and reporting software including Quickbooks online, as well as in Microsoft Office;

Communications Associate
Mill Street Loft + Spark Media Project

Position and Responsibilities
We are seeking a Communications Associate (CA) to work closely with our Executive Director, senior staff and design team for promotion of all agency events and programs. The CA will coordinate, develop, craft and disseminate content for use across many platforms, including press releases and social media messaging, website and marketing campaigns, print and digital advertising, and collateral materials for distribution to internal and external audiences.

The successful candidate is an exceptionally organized individual, capable of juggling multiple high priority projects simultaneously. This job requires strong writing and editing skills, and acute attention to detail. As a member of our team, you will work across several functions to communicate with senior staff, program managers, educators and constituents involved in or impacted by our work, and to develop communications and material to promote our impact.

Requirements for Position:

  • Minimum three years professional experience in communications, journalism and/or public relations. Non-profit experience is highly desirable;
  • BA/BS degree in Journalism, Communications, English, Education or related field;
  • Advanced proficiency in Office 365, Google software and Constant Contact;
  • Experience in branding and brand management;
  • Ability to think, plan and execute on multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Must be able to manage tasks independently, and to carry out projects as a productive member of multiple staff teams;
  • Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills and ability to maintain consistent messaging across multiple platforms;
  • Working knowledge of Photoshop a plus

Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):

  • Messaging: Work with department teams to coordinate communication messages on key issues and agency-related activities, including major fundraising initiatives, workshops, course offerings, ribbon cuttings, screenings, exhibits, fundraising parties and other meetings and events
  • Writing/Editing: Draft and edit copy for a wide range of communication deliverables, conveying technical, detailed information in a clear and accessible manner. Example deliverables include press releases, newsletter articles, blog posts, social media posts, website content, lesson plans, success stories, reports, presentations, marketing materials and testimonials
  • Web Development: Working with webmaster, tasks include updating, creating and editing web copy to incorporate new information, documents, and graphics, as well as collecting, analyzing, and interpreting website analytics to measure performance and identify areas for improvement
  • Media Relations:  Assist with developing media strategies, drafting responses to media inquiries, and pitching and placing content with publishers and bloggers.  Develop and manage relationships with media contacts, including television, newspaper and community sources, to strengthen agency presence within the community
