Each course helps the student to begin to develop a solid portfolio and to understand the requirements of the best schools. Students learn how a professional artist creates and develops ideas and will begin to explore emotion, concept, and series, as they relate to art; as well as, the importance of SAT’s, essays, research, extra-curricular activities, and GPA. Students will work from landscapes, still lifes, the self, and live models, while exploring representational, abstract, and conceptual sensibilities. (Visits by Savannah College of Art & Design, Maryland Institute College of Art, and many other colleges are planned each year at Mill Street Loft’s studios).
Students must bring a portfolio and/or samples of their work and an empty sketchbook to the first class. Each student will be given a thorough review of his/her work. Goals and needs will be determined on an individual basis.
COURSES ARE NOT SEQUENTIAL, but are based on skill level and experience.
Some courses are available in Red Hook and/or Poughkeepsie
