On September 7th, 2017, Mill Street Loft Director Carole J. Wolf, along with her staff and members from the board and community attended a dedication ceremony at The Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie. Walter Joseph, Executive Director of CHP, praised MSL for their artistic vision and commitment in creating the murals. More than 700 total man hours went into creating the five murals installed at CHP.
Mill Street Loft was proud to partner with the Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie. Students from Mill Street Loft’s Project ABLE worked with artist Joe Pimentel to create the two story high “Power Up!” mural on the outside of the Children’s Home gym. It adds a splash of vibrant color and a whimsical energy to the campus for the children to enjoy. In addition, students from the Art Institute of Mill Street Loft’s National Art Honor Society designed and created four murals for the residences. Each mural was a collaboration among the students and included: a video game themed mural, an underwater themed mural, a 3D Tree mural, and a kitchen themed mural. Each mural transformed the space in which it was installed and even inspired the kids in the residences to create their own art that they shared with us at the dedication.
The murals have been so well received that plans are underway for new works to be installed in 2017.
