Beyond Basics for Emerging Filmmakers


Take your filmmaking to new heights in this workshop for intermediate level filmmakers. In this 10-week course, we will focus on producing original narrative shorts with an eye towards developing your own original vision and voice as a filmmaker. Students will learn about working with actors, shot composition and cinematography, three-point lighting, sound design, editing with Adobe Premiere, and production management. Participation in at least one Spark Media Project filmmaking class or workshop is a prerequisite.

Mary Ellen Iatropoulos, MA, MPS has 15 years of experience engaging and educating a vast range of humanity, from prisoners to preschoolers, from homeless teens to blue-chip senior executives. She develops and oversees design, implementation, and assessment of media-rich interdisciplinary curricula across all programs, in addition to managing and advising teaching teams and interns and teaching her own classes. Most recently, she mentored a group of student filmmakers in producing the short film Santa Woman that screened at the Tribeca Film Fest.
