Advanced Drawing & Painting Concentration (Session 1, 2 & 3)
Students explore representational, abstract, and conceptual sensibilities. This CONCENTRATION uses a range of media from charcoal and pastel on paper; water-color and ink painting, mixed media, and acrylic paint on canvas. Students learn to hone their skills of self-expression into personal statements and powerful works of art while developing their portfolios and entering into critiques and dialogues. Drawing & Painting Concentration (Session 1, 2, & 3)
An advanced foundation course which explores the principles of art & 2D design. Students will explore observational based representational and abstract forms as they develop higher level skills. In addition students will discover new drawing techniques and painting methods through the Mixed Media course. This CONCENTRATION begins to prepare students for advanced study as they pursue portfolio development for college admission.

Character Design (session 1 only)
Students in this course will take inspiration from assigned sources to develop a unique character. Each day will involve dynamic figure sculpture, story board creation, and animation production. Students will create a 1/16 scale model of their original character, story boards, and a short animation starring their creation.

Photography Concentration (Session 1, 2, & 3)
Students explore photo in our fully equipped darkroom, in our Digital Studio and on our landscaped grounds. The emphasis will be on seeing–what is visually significant – and craftsmanship – mastering particular photographic techniques in order to create dynamic photographs. Students learn how a camera works, film processing, innovative techniques, and black-and-white printing. This CONCENTRATION gives students practical experience while gaining an understanding of photography.

Summer Intensive Residential Program (Session 2 only)
Enjoy the same great Art Institute summer program but with added bonuses. Each participant will be enjoy special activities, and weekend art excursions while living in the dorms on campus at Dutchess Community College. In addition, Artist Resident Advisors will work in a mentor position with students. $2300. (No member price available for this program.) Meals and accommodations included.
