What’s Ahead?

As we come to the close of another year, we are excited by the changes and opportunities ahead for Mill Street Loft. We have new exciting classes, modifications to the summer programs and camps, a brand new studio facility opening and additions in our amazing staff.

Of course the biggest news is our founder, Carole Wolf, is transitioning out of her role as Executive Director and our NEW Executive Director, Nicole Fenichel-Hewitt, will be at the helm on January 1st. In addition, MSLArts will be merging with Spark Media Project in 2017, forming one bigger and stronger arts organization that will be better able to serve our community.

We will continue to offer the core curriculum that has enabled our students to garnish scholarships, but will begin expanding into digital, film, video, animation, and more adult classes too. This spring you could take Advanced Portfolio Development or Intro to Animation. You could experiment with Digital Photography or explore Digital Drawing & Painting. There are new digital and traditional art courses for all ages to explore. In addition, more adult classes and workshops are being offered. Check them all out here: http://millstreetloft.org/courses/

This summer we have some big changes too. Dutchess Arts Camp will now serve children ages 4-12 in four convenient locations throughout Dutchess County: in Beacon at Scenic Hudson’s River Center, in Millbrook at Dutchess Day School (we’re back again), in Poughkeepsie at Poughkeepsie Day School, and in Red Hook at St. Paul’s Parish Hall. In Poughkeepsie we will be offering Animation to the older campers throughout the summer. The Junior Art Institute and Art Institute Summer Intensive are excited to have a new home at Dutchess Community College. Both programs are expanding to offer Animation and Digital Filmmaking to our students. In addition, students in the Character Design concentration will use their creations to make a short animation. Our outreach “Power Up” programs are changing too. Alexandra Baer, our newest staff member, will be leading the kids in PASWORD and Project ABLE on a completely revamped curriculum with new projects and activities.

Finally, we are pleased to announce that MSLArts will be offering programs at the newly renovated Underwear Factory in Poughkeepsie. MSLArts will have the 3rd floor space with views overlooking Poughkeepsie and the Catskill mountains. This space will be used as a digital studio with courses in Digital Drawing & Painting, Photography, Graphic Design, Film, Animation, and even more.

We will stay in traditional house boats along the canals while drawing, painting, and exploring our way through the museums, galleries, and landscape. Spots are filling, so reserve your spot today.

There is no doubt that 2017 is going to be an incredible year of change. Join our mailing list to stay abreast the changes, or become a member to help support our work. Either way, we look forward to seeing you in class.
